OMG! NYC is sooo good. This city is full of so much stuff, history, people, culture, tall buildings, etc. RIght now we are sitting in the NYC public library, you may remember it in a scene from Ghostbusters.
We spent our first few hours aquainting ourselves with the way the streets and avenues work here...so easy and so smart. I also quickly mastered the art of hailing a cab, and jaywalking. Our journey to get here including lots of transportation modes but that was good because we are now familiar with ways around town. We drove to Buffalo, fly to New Jersey, bussed it to Penn Station in Manhattan, and then took the subway to Ram's apartment where we are staying. AND this apartment is everything you could want in an NYC apartment. Wood floors, black fancy appliances, brick walls, lots of space. Of course it comes with a price tag, just one that we're not paying for. We checked out NYC campus, went down to Ground Zero, walked around the south end Battery Park, took a ferry to Statten Island and back (in order to see the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island). After which we went out for a night on the town in East Village. We went to 2 different bars, both very trendy in their own ways, BUT at the same time, the people there aren't stuck up like you'd expect in a posh club (apparently it's cool like that in East Village) Although we couldn't get into the last bar because I was wearing my white sneakers. This city definately does not sleep.
Yesterday's weather was gorgeous so it only makes sense that we are getting rain today. However, the rain has not detered our spirits and we are making our way around town. I wish I could list all the sites we have seen. We basically hung out around mid-Manhattan and have done: Macy's, Rockerfeller Centre, Waldorf Astoria, Grand Central Station, Times Sqaure, NBC Studios, Radio City Music Hall, and we will walk by Empire State Building but leave going up it until tomorrow. Tonight's agenda includes dinner with Meera and Ram at a nice restaurant and then hitting the town up right (ie the girls are being forced to nap beforehand so they don't get tired again! rrrrrrrrr)
And I could go on and on about all the cute boys around here. It's frustrating though because my gaydar (which isn't normally that great) is being thrown for a total loop here, the straight boys blend right in with the homos. Meera has promised me a gay bar tonight though.
